Dreadzone are a British band whose music is an eclectic fusion of dub, reggae, techno, trance, and folk. They have so far produced five studio albums and one live album. Dreadzone formed in 1993 when ex-Big Audio Dynamite drummer, Greg Roberts, teamed up with Tim Bran, who had previously worked as a musician and sound engineer for Julian Cope. The name Dreadzone was suggested to Roberts and Bran by Don Letts. Bran and Roberts were soon joined by bassist Leo Williams and keyboardist Dan Donovan, also formerly of Big Audio Dynamite. The band signed to Creation Records in 1993 and released their first album 360°. The following year the band signed to Virgin Records and released their second studio album Second Light. In the meantime, Dreadzone had become a favourite festival act and in June that year opened the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival[1]. During these early years their backing vocalists included Melanie Blatt, Denise van Outen and Alison Goldfrapp. In January 1996, the group had their first and so far only Top 40 hit in the UK Singles Chart with "Little Britain"[2], which reached #20. The song sampled a line from the 1968 cult British film If.... - "Britain today is a powerhouse of ideas, experiments, imagination".[citation needed] John Peel championed Dreadzone on BBC Radio 1, and cited Second Light as one of his favourite albums of all time.[citation needed] Tracks from Second Light also dominated Peel's Festive Fifty in 1995, and the band recorded six Peel sessions between 1993 and 2001. Between 1998 and 2001 the Dreadzone soundsystem hosted the Dubweiser club night at Notting Hill Arts Club. On 26 October 2006 it was announced on the Dreadzone forums that Dreadzone guitarist Steve Roberts, the brother of Greg Roberts had died. In May 2007 Chris Compton and Chris Oldfield (DJ, producer and lighting designer) joined the line-up.

DREADZONE NA NEZABORAVNOM KONCERTNOM PARTYJU PONOVO U ZAGREBU 27.9. U AQUARIUSU!

Nezaboravan nastup na VIP INmusic festivalu 2008. godine kao headliner na Radio 101 stageu, potvrdio je da postoje mnogobrojni Dreadzone fanovi koji ih napokon žele vidjeti uživo u hrvatskoj metropoli. Tada je Dreadzone po prvi put nastupio u Hrvatkoj, i svima prisutnima dao do znanja da se radi o jednom od trenutno najboljih dub- reggae live bendova. Ova šarolika britanska šestorka dub-reggae zvukove nadogradila je sa techno-trance, electro-ska, breakbeat i folk elementima, i tako postala nezaobilazna atrakcija najvećih glazbenih svjetskih open-air festivala već punih 17 godina unatrag.

Bend iza sebe ima pet studijskih i dva koncertna albuma, te niz uspješnih singlova od kojih je zasigurno najpoznatiji "Little Britain", sad već klasikom glazbene scene.

Koncertnu promociju albuma "Live at Sunrise", održanu 2006. godine naglo je prekinula iznenadna smrt gitarista Stevea Robertsa, nakon čega je bendu 'prijetio' razlaz. Ipak, na radost mnogobrojne publike, skupina je u ljeto 2007. godine nastavila s radom i nastupima na brojnim festivalima. Bitnu ulogu u popularizaciji benda sigurno je odigrao i legendarni DJ John Peel s BBC-a koji ih je 1994. Vidio na na Glastonburyu i odmah uvrstio na top listu 10 najdražih bendove.

Dreadzone tvore bivši članovi Big Audio Dynamitea Micka Jonesa – bubnjar Greg Roberts i basist Leo Williams – u suradnji sa studijskim meštrom Timom Branom i doajenom britanske punk-reggae scene Donom Lettsom.

Debitantski Dreadzone album „360 Degrees“ (1993.) objavljen je na prestižnom indie labelu Creation. Nakon toga je potpisan ugovor s Virginom za briljantni album „Second Light“ (1995.), koji je donio velik hit „Little Britain“ i označio početak njihove trajne suradnje s jamajkanskim roots-reggae pjevačem Earlom Sixteenom. Novo poglavlje u karijeri Dreadzonea otvoreno je četvrtim studijskim albumom „Sound“ (2001.), na kojem su se osnivačima banda pridružili MC Spee, programer/klavijaturist Ben Balafonic i gitarist Steve Roberts. U proširenoj postavi potvrdili su status nezaobilazne festivalske atrakcije i snimili peti album „Once Upon A Time “ (Functional Records ,2005.).
